The Labor Party (LP) has suspended Senator Kevin Chukwu, representing Enugu East Senatorial District, from the party for alleged anti-party activities and insubordination.
The suspension, announced by the Amuri ward executive of the party, was conveyed to the Enugu State Labor Party Chairman through the Local Government Chairman in a letter signed by the ward chief.
Naija News reports that Senator Chukwu’s suspension follows accusations of conduct contrary to party principles.
In the letter, the Amuri district leadership cited Chukwu’s alleged disregard for party directives as the basis for the decision.
The letter, released to the press on Sunday, reads:
“Suspension notice from the Labor Party
“We, the members of the Nkanu West Local Council Amuri Ward Labor Party Executive Committee, formally notify Special Senator Kelvin Chukwu of his suspension from the Labor Party for a period of 90 days from today. This notice and/or this Date the notification was received.
“This resolution was passed as a result of your acts of disobedience to the party leadership, involvement in anti-party activities, and failure to abide by party principles.
“Despite several requests in this regard, you did not avail yourself of the opportunity to be heard.
“Even if you are suspended, if you wish to assert the party’s constitutional provisions, please rest assured that you are free to do so.”
The letter was signed by Comrade Chika Okoh on behalf of the Amuri District Labor Party Executive Committee.
