The Labor Party (LP) has claimed that the caretaker committee set up by former presidential candidate Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti is the product of illegality.
The National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Obiora Ifor, said this in an interview with Punch published on Thursday.

He said both Obi and Otti were misled by misinformation, adding that the creation of the caretaker committee, chaired by Nenadi Usman, had nothing to do with the party constitution, the country’s constitution or electoral law.

“As you know, the commission is a product of illegality. And we do not accept it because it is not a product of the Nigerian Constitution and Electoral Law. Nor is it a product of the Labor Party Constitution. It is simply a gathering of some party members and leaders who believe that the authority of the party should be surrendered to them.

Their actions were not supported by any law. Therefore, it is unacceptable, it is illegal, and we do not consider that group or the name they call themselves,” he said.

Mr Ifor, however, denied plans to sanction Peter Obi and Governor Otti, adding that they were simply misunderstood party leaders and would find their way back into the diverse ranks of the Labor Party.

“They are the leaders of the party and we hold them in high esteem. We are confident that they were misinformed before making that decision. They will soon return to their original path. He will return and return to the main group of the party.”

An LP spokesperson described Obi and Otti as the party's leaders and stars and denied any sanctions.

“No, there will be no sanctions against these leaders, because, as I said, they have been misinformed and that will not trigger any punitive action. He is a leader and a star.

“We think it’s left to us to put them through it, to guide them, to make them understand the reasons why they have to go back on track. We need everyone in the party. Who are we?” That’s why we're open to people who want to stay.

“The problem we have with the Labor Party is that the party has a party platform and an ideology. The ideology is that people are like-minded. The people who think of Nigeria first and the lower ranks. People. We are not a cultish bourgeoisie party. That is why their leaders (Obi and Otti) are so important to us. , we do not intend to impose any sanctions.”
