Labour’s North Center National Deputy Leader Ibrahim Idoko has criticized Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obedience Movement, over claims that the movement is bigger than the Labor Party (LP).
According to a Naija News report, Tanko said in an interview with Arise News in Abuja on Tuesday that the Obedient Movement is bigger than the LP and if political parties resist good governance and accountability, said it would look for alternatives to serve Nigerians.
However, in a press statement issued to reporters on Wednesday, Mr Idoko dismissed Mr Tanko’s comments, describing him as a political opportunist trying to curry favor with his paymaster.
He pointed out that the LP had made great strides over the years, winning elections even without obedient movements, adding that Tanko and his companions were mischievous.
The statement read: “Comments from someone who once served as national chairman of a deregistered political party are laughable, to say the least. Tanko and his allies have been talking about the Labor Party and its successes before the rise of the obedient movement. Need a quick history lesson.
“It is clear that Tanko and his companions are either living in denial or are terribly misunderstood. Either way, they are just playing a trick.
“The Labor Party has long been winning elections across Nigeria. For the record, the current Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Alex Otti, is not the first governor to be elected on a Labor Party platform.
“Former Ondo State Governor, His Excellency Olusegun Mimiko, served as governor for two terms. The party also has members of the National Assembly and House of Representatives from various states.
“Prominent politicians such as Senator Obie Omo-Agege of Delta State, Senator Joshua Darie of Plateau State, and Prime Minister John Johnson are noteworthy, as are Mr. Samuel Godeh of Benue State and others based on the platform of the Labor Party. was selected.
“Tanko is just a prankster and wants a relationship with his payroll manager. If Tanko and his allies want to pursue another path to LP in 2027, so be it. I hold no grudges against them, but I am confident that under Barr’s leadership, the Labor Party, now Julius Habre and the National Labor Party, will grow stronger and the LP will win elections in 2027. I guess.”
