A former governorship aspirant of the Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Showunmi, has called on party leaders to be serious and resolve the ongoing crisis within the party.
According to a report in Naija News, Shaunmi on Monday in a post via his I told him that it was clearly shown.
He said the party’s core principles and goals are broken and there is a need to review the operating manual from district to state to national level.
Shonmi also called for the opposition to realign itself and not to continue making assumptions. Therefore, it will not be possible to capture the large northern states.
The post read, “PDP, PDP, PDP!!!” The time has come for real reform. Three consecutive elections were held and we did not give in to form a government, but especially the last election clearly showed that we have become the enemy. There is no point in going through the blanket and blame game. No, it’s time to get serious and fix our party.
“The need to overhaul operating manuals from district to state to country has undermined our core principles and goals, and we can no longer do things the way we have been doing things. For an organization that has been around for 25 years, especially a political organization, This is not unusual.” Political parties need to ask themselves the right questions about why things have been happening this way for some time now and how they can prevent it from happening again. (Originally written on 21/08/23.)
“After our dismal performance in the off-season elections, I have reason to return to this policy. It is necessary to audit and, conversely, review logistics.
“We have learned that allocated resources have been so drastically diverted that somehow we have become inattentive to voting day activities and that it has become fashionable to end up coming back and blaming everyone but ourselves. We can’t pretend it doesn’t exist.
“We need to reconsider the meaning of campaigning that gets excited by gathering so-called members at rallies and claiming to be campaigning. Talking to converts who are quick to betray when there are large numbers of voters. Don’t be persuaded to vote.
“It’s foolish to do the same thing over and over again and expect different results. We need to compare the attitude of our incumbent governors to elections with those of their rivals and see where they lost or where there was fraud.” You will clearly see what makes you happy.
“What kind of relationship do we have with key electoral stakeholders, students, civil society, opinion changers, and the stalwarts we like to call local enforcers and territorial guardians? What about public security and Inec, or what do we do? Think of them as the exclusive property of the ruling party.
“The hypothetical job is done. There is no basis for us to lose in this situation. We are losing because we are not doing the right thing. Don’t be fooled. You can’t vote just by uplifting tribalism. We can’t win, because both parties now have a national reach, and the big votes in the north won’t just fall to us. You need to run a campaign that has been created.
“Leave this responsibility to those who have the passion and knowledge to watch our rivals fall. I will kill them in armor. It starts with preparation. That is why I preach the reform of the Party.”
