Ideato-South Rep. Imo Ugochinyele has called on Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to fly to Rivers State to show solidarity with Governor Siminalaya Hubala.
The PDP leader lamented that no PDP governor has deemed fit to openly express support for Governor Tomihara amidst the heightened political crisis ahead of the local government elections scheduled for October 5. Ta.
Ugotinyere said in a statement on Friday that the Rivers State governor had shown courage by standing up to threats from the police and other political interests in the state.
“Governors in serious opposition will fly to Rivers State now and be seen alongside Governor Hubala in a strong show of solidarity, even as the voting rights of Riversians are under attack by federal agents. You’re drinking tea. Stop making the opposition look like jokers.
“PDP and opposition governors should fly to Rivers State and stand boldly with Governor Hubala, who has shown great courage to defend democracy at all costs,” Ugotinyere said.
The Ideato-South MP reminded the PDP governors that their states could be attacked by the same political interests operating in Rivers State.
“Those at the gates of democracy in Rivers will soon launch attacks on your state and what you do today could make or hurt our democracy.
“The incident in which a police officer allegedly tried and failed to flee with campaign materials for the local assembly election is a treasonous act, and requires strong condemnation and solidarity from the opposition governor. Please show once and for all that you guys are really the leaders of this party,” he said under the handle X.
