About 40 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike late Saturday on a house in Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza, health officials said.
Dr. Khalil al-Daklan, a spokesman for Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, said on Sunday that in addition to the dead, more than 80 people were injured in the attack on a residential area in Beit Rahiya.
Al-Dakran estimates that around 1,000 people have been killed since a new Israeli military operation began in northern Gaza earlier this month.
Dr. Maher Shamiya, a senior official at Gaza’s health ministry, also said about 40 people had died, but the death toll was incomplete because there was no ambulance service.
Shamiya said five houses housing displaced people were attacked.
Dr. Munir al-Boursh, director of Gaza’s Ministry of Health, shared images of the scene on Sunday and said many victims remained trapped under the rubble.
Al-Bash said residents were searching for survivors with their bare hands.
CNN is unable to confirm the scale of casualties in the Beit Rahiya attack due to a communications blackout in northern Gaza. CNN has reached out to the Israeli military for comment.
The Israel Defense Forces announced on Sunday that IDF forces “continued their operations and eliminated more than 40 terrorists in the past day” in the Jabaliya area, also in northern Gaza.
“The troops dismantled the terrorist’s infrastructure and discovered a large amount of military equipment,” the Israel Defense Forces said.
The Israel Defense Forces announced that a terrorist group had been “eliminated” during close quarters combat in central Gaza. On this day, the IAF along with ground forces attacked military installations in the area.
