As the 2025 Anambra State governorship election gathers momentum, Labor candidate John Nwosu has contacted members of the Obedience Movement to appeal for their support for his campaign.
Addressing members of the movement from five South East states at a realignment symposium in Onitsha, Mr Nwosu praised the movement for reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
He emphasized that their mission is ongoing, quoting Labor leader Peter Obi: I firmly believe that a new Nigeria is essential and that it is possible. ”
Mr. Nwosu expressed satisfaction with the progress made in organizing the obedience movement, stressing that those who have supported the obedience movement since its inception are relieved to finally see these steps being taken.
“Building the obedient movement has been a long time coming, and those of us who have been there from the beginning are happy that it is finally happening. We wish you every success.
“The Obedient Movement as an organization is huge and inclusive. It transcends politics, ethnicity and religion. The Obedient Movement is easily accessible to all who want a better, secure, peaceful and productive Nigeria. It should be.
“All of us are called to serve and join forces under the obedience movement to bring about the desired changes that we desire for a new and better Nigeria,” he said.
However, Nwosu warned against attempts to exploit the movement, saying that the recent increased interest in the group has led to individuals seeking to claim leadership despite not being involved in its creation. I warned you it was coming.
He referred to the divisions seen in states such as Imo and Edo and attributed these divisions to opportunistic alliances.
“But we must be careful. The obedient movement was organic from the beginning, and it still is. We must recognize that there are six support groups that are the convenors of the United Nations, all of which remain relevant to the vision and mission.
“Now it’s fashionable to be obedient, but we’re seeing people who weren’t there in the beginning, who had little to contribute, trying to take over the obedience movement. Things like this. We must not repeat the mistakes of Imo and Edo states, who used selfish political allegiances to divide the obedience movement.
“The Obidient Movement is Peter Obi and Peter Obi is the Obidient Movement. He is the leader and we are his disciples. We must never forget that. And he is our As advised, the Obedient Movement is not aligned with any political party. Where our leader goes, we will go with him,” he said.
Shifting his focus to Anambra, Nwosu described the state as the next testing ground for the obedience movement and called on members to reject anyone who attempts to assert authority within the group as elections approach.
Mr. Nwosu mentioned policy objectives and highlighted efforts to improve the economic framework of the state.
Nwosu said, “Currently, Anambra people are being treated unfairly and are being over-taxed.When it comes to revenue, we must definitely look beyond the federation account allocation and what we can get from Abuja. Our internal revenue system is premised on fair taxation that is considerate, progressive, and productive.
“I am committed to a fair tax system that considers small businesses and low-income people as worthy contributors to economic growth and promoting social justice.
“I intend to introduce social welfare programs, a social safety net that responds to the population. These include housing subsidies, nutrition programs and financial assistance, demonstrating a commitment to protecting vulnerable populations.”
