OYO Governor Seyi Makinde warns all Progressive Congresses (APCs) against actions that could destabilise Osun, and instead of relying on all political actors to self-help; It encourages people to follow the legal process.
Speaking at Osogbo on Sunday at the oath ceremony of the newly elected local government chair, Makinde emphasized the importance of resolving disputes through justice.
Naija News has gathered the addition of Governor Bala Mohammed, the PDP Governor Forum, as he expressed concern over the rising political tensions in the state.
Don’t turn Osun into a battlefield – Makinde
Addressing the rally, Makinde emphasized that Osun would not become a political war zone due to avoidable conflicts.
“Osun should not be transformed into a battlefield over problems that can be solved by the judiciary,” he said.
He further reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to governance and peace, urging the APC to move away from destructive activities.
“We don’t want Wild Wild West. They should leave this group. We just want to peacefully deliver dividends to people,” he said.
Makinde also warned against attempts to undermine legal proceedings, saying all political grievances must be handled through appropriate channels.
“No one should resort to self-help. Even if the court has its decision, there is a process. Let it go through,” he advised.
He further condemned the abuse of federal influence and said the rule of law must take precedence over the plays of political power.
“It can’t be because it might be the so-called federal government, so I want to spread the process, so I can’t. This is a federal arrangement,” he added.
Seek for peace and stability
Makinde urged the APC to allow Osun peace to govern, noting that there are legal procedures to enforce the court’s decision without relying on lawlessness.
“If someone passes the sentence, there are steps to enforce the court’s decision. It is illegal to rely on self-help,” he argued.
Amidst rising political tensions in Osun, Makinde congratulated the newly sworn council chair and encouraged them to focus on service delivery and grassroots development.
