Labor Minister David Umahi has threatened to terminate the contract with a Niger state contractor handling the construction of 10 federal roads.
Umahi said this was due to unnecessary delays in the project.
The minister made the threat during a meeting with stakeholders and stakeholders on the poor condition of federal roads in the state at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting presided over by the minister was attended by Niger State Governor Mohamed Bago, Minister of State for Labor Bello Goronyo, members of the state House of Assembly, and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Mohamed Sani, among other stakeholders. .
Addressing the meeting, Umahi labeled the company in charge as a failed contractor and blamed the deplorable condition of the roads.
He was furious at the attitude of some contractors working on federal roads in Niger State despite receiving various percentages of advance payments.
He said, “In line with the policy direction of the Renewed Hope administration on all ongoing federal road projects across the country, the Federal Ministry of Works has issued a directive to contractors handling the 10 ongoing projects inherited in Niger State. , issued an ultimatum to move to the scene without permission.” Further delays and failure to ensure the quality and prompt delivery of contracted projects risk the termination of such contracts. ”
He stressed that there will be an impact on contractors who raise funds for projects, perform late or substandard work, or are unable to deliver projects in line with the current administration’s policy direction, which emphasizes speed, quality and value for money. .
The 10 inherited and ongoing federal road projects listed by the Minister include the 52km Agaje-Kacha-Baro road in Niger State under contract number 6254 handled by GR Building and Construction Nig; Ltd, Dualization of Suleha-Rambata-Minna Road in Niger State, Phase I Contract Number: 6077, Handled by Sarini Nigeria Ltd., Duplication of Sureha-Rambata-Minna Road in Niger State, Phase II Contract Number: 6267, Sarini Nigeria Ltd. The company handles the duplication of Section 1 of Jebba-Mokwa-Bokani Junction Road, Ilorin. Jebba – Mokwa – Bokani junction in Kwara and Niger states will be served by CGC Nig. Co., Ltd.
Other projects that CGC Nig is responsible for include Ilorin, Jebba – Mokwa – Bokani Junction Road Section II and Jebba – Mokwa – Bokani Junction Dualization Project in Kwara and Niger States.
