There are strong indications that Delta North representative and Chairman of the Senate Reparations and Repatriation Committee, Senator Ned Nwoko, is planning to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The senator has not yet made an official announcement, but his short answer to a question on the issue, “soon,” has fueled speculation that his defection is imminent.
Cold relationship with PDP leadership
Nwoko, who has been a vocal critic of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Obolewori, is believed to be considering the move due to rising tensions with the PDP leadership in the state.
The report said the senator's strained relationship with influential party members, coupled with ongoing political dynamics in Delta State, influenced his decision.
According to Vanguard, former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who served as Delta North senator before Nwoko’s predecessor Peter Nwabosi, plans to return to the Senate in 2027 under the PDP platform. There are signs that it is building up.
Naija News has learned that this has reportedly created further friction, with Mr Nwoko reluctant to contest the party ticket.
With Nwoko’s defection, he joins another prominent Delta North politician, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, who earlier switched allegiance from PDP to APC.
If this move becomes official, it could have significant implications for both sides. Nwoko’s resignation will be a blow to the PDP, which has long dominated Delta State politics. For APC, acquiring a prominent figure like Mr. Nwoko will strengthen its prospects in the state, especially in the run-up to the 2027 general elections.
