The Member of Parliament representing Delta North, Senator Ned Nwoko, is leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), its Director of Public Relations, Gloria Okorugbo, has confirmed.
According to a report by Naija News, Mr. Okorugbo in a statement issued on Sunday disclosed that the senator’s decision followed a series of consultations with stakeholders, supporters and voters in Delta North. did.
She attributed the move to Nwoko’s dissatisfaction with the inability of the PDP to support the development goals of the Anioma people.
“Senator Ned Nwoko was ready to serve the people of Anioma and bring them the benefits of good governance, but unfortunately, he lacked the cooperation and support of his political party, the PDP, in pursuing this vision. Even though he is the only PDP senator from Delta State,” Okorugbo said.
The main grievances raised by Nwoko include the state government’s lack of support for important projects aimed at improving the lives of Delta North residents.
These projects include:
– Okpai Independent Power Plant (IPP): A scaled-down project to provide electricity to more than 60 communities is reportedly stalled due to lack of support.
– Ogwasi-Uku Dam: An important project aimed at securing water supply for the entire region remains unrealized.
“The senator believes it is futile to remain in a party that cannot deliver on its campaign promises to the people of Delta North. The marginalization of the region has continued for far too long,” Okorugbo added.
Mr. Okorugbo disclosed that Mr. Nwoko has started engaging with APC and has received positive feedback on his growth agenda. She stressed that the senator’s decision was driven by his determination to fulfill his election promises.
“This decision is not just about politics, it is about fulfilling an election promise to the people of Anioma,” she said.
