New York is expected to see a repeat of last night’s northern lights this evening, but aurora enthusiasts will have to travel outside the city to see them a second time.
The rare treat is expected to reappear tonight, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) aurora forecast.

But if you missed out on a lot of photos and want to join in on the phenomenon tonight, you’ve got a big step ahead, the station says.
That’s because the five boroughs are unlikely to be lucky twice.
Experts say Lake Ontario and the Adirondack Mountains are as far south as the magic is predicted to occur today.
The spectacular event, which stunned the Big Apple on Thursday and flooded social media platforms with videos and images, was caused by a “severe” geomagnetic storm.
“It’s been a long time since we’ve seen visible auroras over New York City,” the account New York Metro Weather enthused in a post, showing purple and pink displays visible to the naked eye on countless street corners.
And the city may not have to wait too long for its next move. There has been a recent surge in solar activity, with parts of the Tri-Stater witnessing a natural spectacle as early as May this year.
The meteorologist explained that it is due to the current solar situation, and there is absolutely a possibility that the sky drama will develop further.
