The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, said the NIGCOMSAT accelerator program is a testament to Nigeria’s collective determination to harness the potential of space technology and the broader innovation ecosystem.
Mr. Nnaji made this statement at the NIGCOMSAT Accelerator Demo Day themed “Beyond the Horizon: Shaping Nigeria’s Space Future” organized by NIGCOMSAT and its partners as part of the Nigeria Satellite Week of Activities in Abuja. .
He stressed that the Demo Day not only celebrates the achievements of these startups, but also the power of collaboration and entrepreneurship to drive Nigeria’s future.
“The theme of this event resonates deeply with the goals of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology,” said Nnaji. “This reflects the ambition at the heart of our policy to advance Nigeria as a leader in science, technology and space innovation. This ambition extends beyond rhetoric: creating new industries and empowering young people. The aim is to empower Nigeria and ensure that it contributes meaningfully to the global technology economy while growing its space economy.”
Speaking on behalf of the Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency, Dr. Matthew Adepoju, Nnaji maintained that start-ups are not just developing products. They are creating a more inclusive, sustainable and competitive future.
He added: “Accelerator programs are an important step in bridging the gap between innovation and industry, ensuring that the great ideas we generate are translated into real-world solutions.As a government leader, I Our role is to create an environment that fosters collaboration between the public and private sectors, entrepreneurs and investors, local talent and global partners.

The Minister assured that the Ministry would continue to support such initiatives in line with President Bola Tinubu’s vision to create jobs, empower communities and position Nigeria as a global innovation hub. In her welcome address, NIGCOMSAT Managing Director Jane Egerton Eidehen said that Demo Day aims to showcase more than nine months of intensive work by startups. She expressed pride in efforts to deploy space technology to address real-time societal challenges and stressed the importance of harnessing space technology for national development.
In his keynote speech, SMEDAN Executive Director Charles Oddy praised startups that are developing innovative and profitable products.
