Fisayo Dele-Bashir’s closing moments as Nigeria’s Super Eagles won a hard-fought 1-0 win against Libya in the AFCON qualifier held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Friday, October 11. His goal broke the deadlock. 87 minutes.
With this win, Nigeria remain unbeaten in the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification and are firmly on track to qualify for Morocco next year.
Nigeria dominated possession for much of the match but struggled to find the back of the goal before Moses Simon supplied a pinpoint cross into the box which Dele-Bashir coolly slotted home. I finally found a breakthrough.
Libya, who have not played in AFCON since 2012 and are without a win in their last seven matches, continued to defend throughout the match, but were unable to contain Nigeria’s relentless pressure in the closing stages.
With the win, Nigeria remain top of Group D with seven points and extend their unbeaten run in AFCON qualifying to six games. The return match will be held on Tuesday, October 15th at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benina, Libya.
