The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has increased its air surveillance capabilities with the procurement of a Cessna Grand Caravan EX-208B, marking a significant enhancement of its operational resources.
The Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, who inspected the newly acquired aircraft in Bartlesville, Washington, USA, disclosed that the initiative was to boost the operations of the Service Air Wing.
According to CGC, the aircraft, registered as 5N-BAA, will enhance the NCS's air patrol and surveillance operations.

Comptroller Adeniyi emphasized the importance of the acquisition, noting that the aircraft is equipped with the latest Garmin G1000 Avionics cockpit system, which improves operation, especially in low-visibility areas.
“This aircraft will be a game changer for the aviation arm of the Nigeria Customs Service. With its capacity to transport 10 officers and six hours of airborne endurance, it will significantly enhance our aerial surveillance and border security capabilities.
“The Cessna Grand Caravan plays a critical role in air patrols to detect smuggling routes, deploy armed personnel, and provide rapid support to ground operations.
“With this aircraft, we will be able to strengthen our air border security capabilities and not only deter illegal activities, but also provide rapid evacuation support if needed,” Adeniyi explained.
Additionally, the aircraft will serve as a strategic asset for the Nigeria Customs Technical and Hangar Services Company, providing logistical support and revenue generation to the NCS.
Mr. Adeniyi highlighted the cost-effectiveness of the Cessna Grand Caravan, noting that its operating costs are relatively low compared to other aircraft in its class.
“This is a long-term investment in the service that will not only improve operational efficiency but also contribute to the sustainability of the air surveillance program,” he added.
Colonel Kuhi Mbaya, Aircraft Operations Coordinator and Managing Director, Nigeria Customs Technology and Hangar Services, hailed the acquisition as a milestone for the NCS aviation sector.
“With this aircraft, the Nigeria Customs Service is ready to invigorate its air border security operations, secure the border more effectively and improve revenue for both the Customs and the nation,” Captain Mbaya said.
