The Nigerian government has expressed interest in partnering with Italy to promote the use of space technology for socio-economic development. According to Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Uche Nnaji, the cooperation aims to address important issues such as environmental protection and agricultural efficiency.
Speaking on Friday during the visit of the Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Stefano De Leo, in Abuja, Minister Nagy highlighted the role of space technology in mitigating challenges such as flooding and reducing conflicts between herders and farmers. The minister cited an assessment by the space agency that revealed that Cameroon’s Lagudo dam had flooded, noting that flooding in several northern provinces was one of the pressing challenges facing the country.
