Peter Obi, Labor’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general election, has warned that the nation is sitting on a powder keg.
Mr. Obi issued the warning in a statement on Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day.
The former Anambra State governor expressed his anger at the level of hardship and misgovernment in the country and reiterated his support for the protests organized by some youth groups and civil society organizations to mark the anniversary.
“This is not to say that a 64-year-old country has no right to celebrate itself, but the question remains: Are we celebrating our failures or are we celebrating our successes?
“It is with the understanding that I support today’s protests as long as they are peaceful.Nigerians should seize every opportunity to remind us that we are all sitting on a powder keg in this country. I have to remind people.
“What we really need in Nigeria is grief. We should not have marched today in sackcloth and ashes.
“Our leaders need to publicly express remorse for betraying the trust and hopes of so many.Nigerians must gather under the tree to reflect on the current state of the nation and its rise and rise. Over the years, we should have tried to teach each other the lessons of history: progress, decline, downfall, and the mishaps, mistakes, and follies that plague Nigeria. ” said Obi.
He further explained that Nigerians, through various social media platforms, should remind each other that all the factors that create a revolution have been revealed today.
“We also know how revolutions begin and how they are carried out, and how deadly a chain of circumstances drives the smartest people far beyond the limits of moderation, and how the most enraged people “We have to remind each other what impulses drive us into excess at that very moment,” the former presidential candidate said.
He added that how to repeat or avoid such failures should be an important discussion by Nigerians.
Obi emphasized: We know what is happening today, but no one can predict what will happen tomorrow. ”
He emphasized the importance of leadership that understands the reality of the country’s situation and takes decisive action to guide it in the right direction.
