Nigerians on X on Saturday criticized presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga for saying that President Bola Tinubu can go wherever he wants.
The criticism came after an earlier statement by Ibrahim Kabir Masari, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Affairs, said on Saturday that Tinubu had left the UK for what was scheduled to be a two-week stay. Vacation to Paris, France.
Amid criticism, Onanuga tweeted: “President Tinubu is taking a two week vacation. He is not limited to the UK. It is his personal time. He can go wherever he wants. He still keeps his holidays.”
However, this did not sit well with X’s Nigerians, who reminded him that the principal was embarking on a trip using public funds.
X user @OfficiaEdoOsasB said, “The British Prime Minister always hangs out in Ikoyi and Banana Island on vacation. Nigerians should take a chill pill and enjoy Tinubu’s great policies.”
Another X user, @oteessolutions1, wrote, “You actually look like you have depression and anxiety.”
Yet another X user, @TimedFrank, wondered if work pressure was getting to Onanuga. “So who is fighting you? Why this belligerent tone? Are you under pressure? Calm down. Hey, wipe the sweat from your forehead and relax.” tweeted user X.
X user @djokaymegamixer wondered why the president did not hand it over to his deputy, Kasim Shettima. He writes: “And since Nigeria is the personal property of the president, there was no need for the president to hand over power to the vice president while he was on vacation. Isn’t vacation supposed to be given to working people?”
