A group of youths on Tuesday organized the “2024 Independence Day Peace and Unity Walk” in Lokoja to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th anniversary of independence, distributing T-shirts and face caps to residents.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the youths resorted to sharing goods after being discouraged from marching through the streets of the capital, Kogi, to rally support for the government of President Bola Tinubu.
Governor Usman Ododo’s Senior Special Adviser on Youth Affairs, Shehu Attah, described the group’s expedition as a “huge success”.
Atta said the group’s coordinator, Kazeem Isa, led the distribution of the goods, moving from one street to another.
He said the activity was organized to rally support for Tinubu’s efforts to revive the country’s ailing economy.
“We were planning to take a ‘peace and unity walk’ from Ganja Junction to Kogi Government House, but we decided to shelve it as there were fears that hoodlums could hijack the process.
“Instead, we decided to touch lives by distributing T-shirts and face caps to residents as we move from street to street.
“This is how we celebrate Independence Day this year at Lokoja.
“As young people, we appeal for full support to the policies and programs of the Tinubu government. We want all Nigerians to do the same,” Attah said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
