The Nigerian government has taken an important step towards tackling Nigeria’s unemployment problem by establishing a commission focused on youth participation in economic growth. It is led by the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, and this committee will develop strategies to reduce national unemployment rates and increase the economic well-being of the population.
The Honorable Minister of State, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, has set up a joint committee comprising representatives of the ministry and the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Abuja.
Comrade Olawande said the National Directorate of Employment’s mandate to design and implement programs to combat mass unemployment is in line with the ministry’s objective of providing gainful employment to Nigerian youths.
He stressed the importance of leveraging NDE collaboration and the wide scope of NDE efforts to create productive employment opportunities for youth across Nigeria, and the Committee recommended that all current NDE initiatives be He added that he is responsible for investigating, identifying areas for improvement and proposing new programs to facilitate near-death experiences. The goal is to create jobs for young people.
While giving the committee two weeks to complete its task, Mr. Olawande highlighted the terms of reference, which include the following tasks: Develop a mainstreaming approach to integrate NDE scheduling officers in local government areas into the Minister for Youth Development’s planned Green House Initiative, including proposing new job creation strategies, Data clarifying techniques and tools for recovering unemployment.”
“A youth employment website constantly updated to reflect the truth, identifying donor agencies and partner organizations with specific contact persons to assist in improving the performance of near-death experience activities, particularly skills centres.” Exploring the possibility of establishing a Committee to monitor the reality and perform other functions that may be incidental to the realization of the Committee’s objectives.
Earlier, the Secretary-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mr. Umar Aliyu, said the cooperation was aimed at comprehensively addressing the pressing unemployment issue in the country.
Aliyu disclosed that the NDE has strategically appointed administrative staff to cover all 774 local governments across the country, adding that collaborative efforts are being made to ensure formal and informal access to youth, elderly, women and people with disabilities. He noted that addressing the needs is a priority. He added that the initiative will include a wide range of programs and interventions to effectively combat and reduce unemployment across the country.
