Wash 94.9fm, Nigeria’s first health radio station, has opened in Lagos as a vehicle to broadcast health issues and raise awareness of health issues across the country.
The station, announced over the weekend, has been licensed by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to broadcast in English, Yoruba, Hausa, Fulfulde and other indigenous dialects for wide coverage.
The station will have two main content segments: 70% health coverage and 30% entertainment, music and entertainment, and will feature interviews and commentary from industry leaders in the healthcare industry, as well as independently produced programming. .
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, the founder of the radio station, Professor Ronke Ogunmakin, said that the radio station is the culmination of a 25-year journey and aims to provide quality information and explanations on health-related issues by experts in the medical community.
