A majority of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) caucus in the House of Representatives has passed a motion of no confidence in Ali Madaki, the lawmaker representing Dara Federal Constituency.
Naija News understands that they also support his removal as Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives.
Madaki’s dismissal follows his decision to distance himself from the Kwankwasiya Movement, a faction linked to NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Instead, he declared his allegiance to the party’s founder, Boniface Anibonum.
The Daily Nigerian reported that the resolution to remove Madaki was officially signed into law by 15 NNPP members. Three MPs opposed the decision: Alhassan Lulum (Rano/Kibiya/Bunkure), Abdullahi Sani (Karaye/Logo) and Madaki himself.
In a letter dated Monday to Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen, the NNPP leadership nominated Madaki’s successor as Tijani Jobe, representing Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Limingad Federal Constituency.
The letter, signed by NNPP National Party Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed and Secretary, Dipo Olayoku, read: “The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) extends greetings to you, your leaders and all members of the House of Representatives. I want to We write this letter to nominate the name of the party’s most senior leader, Hon Tijani Abdulkadir Jobe, to replace Hon Aliyu Sani Madaki as Deputy Minority Leader. ”
The NNPP called on the Speaker to expeditiously deal with the matter, stressing its importance to the party, the caucus and the House.
