The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the commendation of Governor Ademola Adeleke for his achievements by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo on Thursday, the APC Media and Publicity Secretary, Kola Olabisi, accused the governor of engaging in extra-budgetary expenditure.
Mr. Olabisi responded to Mr. Obasanjo who praised Mr. Adeleke’s interim performance during the opening of the Old Garage Oke-Fia Rameko-Oshogbo dual carriageway, dismissing the support as disingenuous.
“Obasanjo once claimed that the Port Harcourt refinery would not be operational, but now it is operational.Whatever he says about Adeleke’s performance, he probably said the opposite,” Olabisi said. said.
Further, the party claimed poor performance across key sectors such as education, agriculture, health and financial management.
Olabisi claimed that the Adeleke administration had failed in the education sector, citing the dismissal of 1,500 teachers employed by the previous administration without any replacements.
He said: “When it comes to education, the Adeleke administration has proven to be an irreparable failure. It has become a demon in public schools as it sacked 1,500 teachers employed by its predecessor without yet replacing them. It is clear that the government is not good for the people of the state, right down to tuition fees.
“For example, there is only one physics teacher in the entire Atakumosa East.
“The administration’s track record on agriculture and food security is also unremarkable. The government has also failed spectacularly on health over the past two years. Instead, it continues to spend huge amounts of money painting and decorating health facilities that were previously rebuilt by the Oyetola administration.
“Did you know that the newly established University of Ilesa charges a tuition fee of N1.5 million for law students?Nursing students are charged N1.2m per session; while for Osun State University; , from 300,000 Naira to 500,000 for the same course. Naira is charged. If the government really provides enough funds to Uniresa, why should Uniresa students have to pay exorbitant fees?”
