President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on all political stakeholders to respect and not violate the rights of voters in the upcoming Ondo State gubernatorial election.
Naija News reports that all voters in Ondo State will be out on Saturday to exercise their citizenship rights in the governorship election.
Hours after the exercise began, President Tinubu on Friday (today) said in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, that he would fearlessly uphold peace and civility before and after elections, and as citizens. He advised voters to take responsibility.
The statement reads: “As Ondo State prepares for an off-cycle gubernatorial election, President Bola Tinubu urges all political stakeholders and voters to fearlessly uphold peace, civility and civic responsibility before and after the election. We request that you fulfill your duties.
“President Tinubu looks forward to a democratic process in the state that truly reflects the will of the people and their right to freely elect their leaders.
“The President commends the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its diligent preparations for the elections, especially the timely distribution of sensitive materials to all 18 local governments in the state.
“He also acknowledges that security personnel are in place to maintain law and order. He acknowledges that his staff acted professionally to ensure a credible election process and that the provisions of the Electoral Act We appreciate the assurances from the Inspector-General of Police and the Commander-in-Chief of Defence, that this will be complied with.
“President Tinubu reminds all political actors, especially candidates, that the people are entitled to the privilege of governing and this right must be respected and not compromised.
“He emphasizes that it is in the best interest of all Nigerians to ensure free and fair elections and consolidate over 25 years of democratic governance.”
