The vice-candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the ongoing Ondo State governorship election, Hon. Mr. Festus Akbaso secured a decisive victory over the school principal, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, in polling unit 8, Ward 2, Alade Okun, Alade-Idanre.
Mr Akingbaso received an overwhelming 187 votes, followed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) with a margin of 46 votes. Labor Party (LP), Action Alliance (AA) and PLP secured one vote each.
Despite fears of chaos, the voting process and results collation went off without a hitch, thanks to the intervention of armed patrol officers.
Reports said the area was surrounded by hoodlums who were said to be trying to snatch ballot boxes.
Witnesses said the situation became tense until police fired several warning shots into the air to disperse the suspected thugs, The Nation reported.
The officers were then persuaded to remain at the polling station so that the sorting and collation of votes could be completed without further interruption.
The results of polling unit 8 came as a major boost to the PDP camp as vote counting continues across the state amid mounting security concerns.
