Former Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abubakar has called on Nigerian youths to rise up and take responsibility to save the country.
Speaking at the first Bauchi SDGs Youth Summit 2024 on Tuesday, Muhammad declared that his generation and its leaders, including himself, have failed to provide Nigerians with the leadership they deserve.
“My generation failed. It seems like my generation doesn’t have the answers anymore.
“Allah loves Nigeria. That is why every time He gives my generation a chance, we drive Nigeria to the cliff and Allah brings it back. We will take over again. “It means doing something the same way and expecting a different result. Some people say that’s the definition of insanity,” he said.
The former Bauchi governor, while disclosing that the investment in the youth population was deliberate during his administration, further stated: Of the big guys. I chose young people based on their acting ability and encouraged them, knowing full well that one day I would have to step off the stage and the young people would take over, whether I liked it or not. ”
Mohammed warned that leaders should be wary of the country’s future if young people are not trained to prepare them for future leadership roles.
He went on to stress that the readiness of young people for the country's future leadership roles is already at risk due to insufficient investment in them.
“If we don’t train them today, you can imagine what will happen when it’s time for us to step off stage and let them take over.” It will appear,” Mohammed insisted.
He called on young people to prepare for this challenge and change the country’s status quo.
Also speaking on the occasion, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Salisu Gamawa, advised the youths to not look for non-existent white people, but look for opportunities to innovate and bring about change in the socio-economic narrative of the country. . Collar work.
According to Gamawa, because the system has changed, young people also need to change their mindset.
Observing that some young people simply oppose the government and those in leadership positions, the commissioner said, “Life is a project, and the best thing you can do for yourself is to It’s about projecting a better image. As young people, we need to identify where we are sorely lacking and know what it really means to be a leader.”
Mr. Gamawa said, “When I say leader, I don’t mean the executive governor. I don’t mean the chairman. It means nothing but yourself.”
He therefore advised that before young people can think about leading others, they must first learn how to lead themselves correctly and positively as individuals.
