Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has appealed to unite All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for the upcoming local government elections and push for a strong victory across the state.
Addressing a meeting with APC candidates and party leaders in Abeokuta on Friday, Abiodun highlighted the party’s achievements and said these achievements put APC in a good position to win in all 20 local government areas. I said no.
Highlighting his administration’s progress in democratizing governance and strengthening infrastructure, Mr. Abiodun expressed confidence that Ogun residents would support the APC given the extensive developments witnessed so far.
“I would like to confirm that you have met with the other contestants and reconciled with them in a spirit of gratitude and reconciliation.
“It is important that we leave no room for bickering or animosity. We also believe that in any local government there is no possibility that someone will take part in this election and try to polarize the party along the lines of those who did not run. It is important that there is no room left. It is important that there is complete harmony in each local government,” Abiodun said.
The governor further pointed out that the candidate selection process was thorough, saying, “Not one of you has come out by chance. Because I will not allow you to entrust anything to me.” I will be the interim city council president.
“That’s why I’m taking this local government election very seriously. I’m not leaving anything to chance. That’s why I’m particularly interested in making sure we identify the right people for local government. I have been involved.”
To strengthen their connection with voters, Abiodun urged candidates to campaign in line with the administration’s slogan ‘ISEYA’ and promote a unified message in different regions.
“It is important that there is some kind of unity in the campaign so that the campaigns in Ijebu North, Abeokuta South, Ipokia and Ado-Odo-Ota are very similar,” he said.
The governor also announced upcoming projects such as the groundbreaking of a deep sea port, naval base and shipyard in Ogun Waterside Local Government.
He highlighted infrastructure successes including the construction of more than 700 kilometers of roads, more than 4,000 housing units, the rehabilitation of 120 primary health care centers and the upgrading of 1,000 classrooms across the state.
On economic challenges, Abiodun noted that President Bola Tinubu’s policies will ultimately benefit everyone, adding that measures such as discounted rice sales for civil servants and pensioners will address current difficulties. It added that the aim was to alleviate the situation.
In his welcome address, APC Chairman Yemi Sanusi urged the candidates to campaign vigorously and ensure a landslide victory for the party.
