The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called the attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) introduced for the Ondo governorship election.
A Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) is an electronic device designed to read Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and authenticate voters.
According to a PDP Situation Room statement on Saturday morning, the BVAS deployed at Unit 04, Ward 7 in Akoko West Local Government Area has been rendered inoperable.
Elections have not yet begun in the unit. “As of 8:45 a.m., the election has not yet begun in Unit 04 Ward 7, Akoko West due to failure of the Bivas machine. Mr. INEC, please intervene,” the PDP said.
Meanwhile, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Ayedatiwa, who is seeking re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has cast his vote.
Naija News reports that Governor Ayedatiwa voted at polling station No. 6 in Obenla community, Ward 4 of the state.
Ayedatiwa boarded a boat at Ugbonla jetty and headed to the polling station.
However, the accreditation and voting commenced in Unit 46, Ward 4, Ijapo Estate, Akure South Local Government Area.
Recall that INEC promised that the elections would be free and fair. Professor Kunle Ajayi, the national commissioner of INEC which oversees Ondo, Ogun and Osun states, said this in an interview on Friday.
