The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expelled the prime minister. Mr. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, Member of Parliament representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State and Spokesman of the United Coalition of Political Parties (CUPP).
The expulsion, effective immediately, was based on charges of serious indiscipline, insubordination, and anti-party activities.
The Ideato Local Government Area (LGA) branch of the PDP communicated this decision in a letter dated December 5, 2024. In a vote of gratitude, Mr. Okeke and General Secretary Onibuchi Ume addressed the state chairman of the party.
This development follows the recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee Report dated November 27, 2024. The Committee investigated the allegations against Ugochinyere in accordance with Article 57(1-4) of the PDP Constitution (2017, as amended).
The disciplinary proceedings began on October 14, 2024, following the suspension of Mr Ugochinyere by Umuopia/Umkegwu District. The suspension was triggered by Mr. Ugochinyere’s failure to appear before the District Executive Committee on October 5, 2024, despite multiple invitations and reminders.
The expulsion letter stated as follows: “Upon receipt of the report, the LGA Executive Committee of Ideato North met on December 5, 2024 and unanimously adopted the report of the Disciplinary Committee. In view of this, Your Highness, Imo Ugochinyere. Ikeagwonu is hereby expelled from the PDP and ceases to be a member of the Peoples Democratic Party for Umpia/Umkegwu constituency in Ideato North LGA.”
The Disciplinary Committee found Mr. Ugochinyere guilty of several violations of party constitution, including:
Failure to attend meetings or participate in party activities for an extended period of time is a violation of Article 58(1)(e).
Unauthorized publicity of a dispute between the parties contrary to Article 58(1)(i).
Establishing parallel party organizations at the district, local council, and national levels, which violates the party constitution.
He made derogatory statements about the party and its leaders in public, bringing the party into disrepute.
The PDP stressed that these actions not only violate the constitution but also undermine the party’s unity and public image.
