Human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labor Party (LP) to fulfill their responsibility to hold the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to account.
According to a report by Naija News, Mr Adeyanju in an interview with Arise News criticized the leadership of the LP and PDP for their failure to present a credible opposition to the APC.
Mr. Adeyanju spoke about the threat of legal action by the Acting PDP National Chairman, Mr. Umar Damagun, and the National Secretary, Mr. Samuel Anyanwu, over his recent comments criticizing the opposition, saying that his remarks were a threat to the opposition to hold a conference. The aim is to encourage people to fulfill their responsibilities. The ruling party bears responsibility.
Adeyanju described the threat as an attempt to stifle critical voices and expressed readiness to face any legal challenges.
He said: The idea behind these statements, a large part of these statements, is that we want people in the opposition to live up to their responsibility to hold the government accountable at all levels.
“PDP and the Labor Party need to do better because they are not holding the government accountable and are not a credible opposition party to the APC government.
“My view is basically that if unfathomable things have been said about people and they feel like they want to sue me, that’s fine, I’m happy to do that.
“I’ve said many times that arrests are like public relations campaigns for me and prisons are campaigns for me. Those are some of the things I enjoy.
“I have no ill will towards anyone. All I ask is for the opposition to be a reliable opposition, to wake up to their responsibilities and live to oppose the government.”
