Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Dylan Odeyemi, has maintained that the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State is linked to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential ambitions.
Naija News reports that Mr. Odayemi made this assertion on Tuesday in Osogbo during a dialogue session organized by the Union of Veterans Journalists, Osun State Chapter.
He said the conflict in Rivers State was a microcosm of a larger crisis within the PDP at the national level, noting that the faction supporting Governor Simu Hubala was aligned with Mr. Atiku, while the faction opposing the governor He described himself as a supporter of the Federal Capital Territory Minister (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The former PDP spokesperson urged Mr. Atiku to resign from running for the party’s presidential election in 2027 citing peace within the party.
He also called on Mr. Wike to commit to restoring harmony within the PDP, adding that if both leaders fail to fulfill these promises, the crisis within the PDP will continue.
He said, “For the PDP to rule peacefully, Mr. Atiku should openly declare that he has no interest in contesting the 2027 presidential election.” Similarly, Mr Wike should pledge his commitment to peace within the party.
“They both need to recognize their roles as leaders and elders of Nigeria. They must agree that for the sake of the party and the country, peace is needed for the PDP to move forward. As long as we continue to take sides with the human gladiators, the crisis will continue.”
