The Director of the Cultural Heritage Center, Katchi Onuju, has publicly dismissed the prospect of a political union between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi of the Labor Party.
In a recent interview with Daily Post, the PDP leader revealed the current alliance dynamics within the Nigerian opposition party.
There has been widespread speculation about Onunuju’s potential to form a coalition government, but the only real expression of interest has been Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), who is keen to partner with Peter Obi. I emphasized one thing.
The revelations came amidst rumors and public expectations for a broad opposition coalition to challenge the ruling party in the upcoming election campaign.
“Mr Kwankwaso had said he would cooperate with Mr Peter Obi after the election, but he was threatened by some people not to work with Mr Obi,” Mr Onuju said. There has been no talk of a merger between either party. The only possible merger we’ve seen so far is Kwankwaso talking about his willingness to work with Obi. There is no other talk about the merger. PDP cannot talk about the merger due to the crisis. Before we talk about merger, PDP must become independent. The same goes for the Labor Party. The only movement I have no problem knowing about is the Obedient movement, which is a movement rather than a political party. There are no merger talks, but there are hints of living together and working together, and I know that Kwankwaso has publicly stated that he intends to work with Obi. ”
Mr Onunuju said no one, including Mr Kwankwaso and Mr Obi, would take Atiku seriously because of his insane ambitions.
He added: “Because of Atiku’s insane ambitions, if he doesn’t get off his high horse, no one, neither Kwankwaso nor Obi, will take him seriously.” Secondly, Atiku belongs to a political party that is currently in crisis, so there is no better option than such a troubled merger. Obi visited Atiku some time ago and talked about Atiku cooperating and Peter said yes, but Atiku is not going to resign anyone from the south for him. So the fact that he said in 2013 that “the sanctity of the rotation system is as sacrosanct as the quota system” is that the quota system is the reason the South backed down to allow North Korea to participate. — If that’s how you get the presidency, and you don’t want to allow the South to join, no one will work with you — that’s why Atiku wants to be at the top and no one will work. That’s why I don’t do it.
“If you allied with the nPDP to create the Buhari presidency, why would you feel scared to be ruled by a southerner after eight years of President Buhari’s tenure? If you don’t have that spirit, it won’t work. It was Atiku who started paying preachers in mosques to preach that Muslims in the north should not vote for anyone in the east. That’s why Wike was scared. , he began a stunt denying his heritage by saying, “I am not an Igbo,” and thought he would be taken to the north. what happened? He was rejected and that is why Wike got so much bad blood trying to do NWC the same way Atiku did. Once you use money to violate our party’s NWC, you can bend their heads and do anything. ”
The PDP leader ruled out the possibility of a merger if Atiku does not resign in favor of a younger candidate from the south.
He said, “So, if Atiku does not resign for the sake of young people from the south, there is nothing better than amalgamation. The youth movement was formed because Atiku refused, and if he refuses… If we do, we can have what we have now.” When a party splits into several factions, there is no opposition party. So you blame all that on Atiku.
“There is no way they will allow them to benefit from the crisis he has engineered. He is the cause of division in the opposition. If we had respected that, we would not be in the situation we are in today. We are in this country today after Mr. Atiku told everyone, “Now it’s the North’s turn.” This was because he pursued the presidential position excessively, and that was the reason for the formation of nPDP.
“So even if the nPDP succeeds in keeping Mr. Buhari in power for eight years, is that not enough for North Korea? Why do northerners still insist on running and do such things at mosques?” Are you trying to come up with some nonsense plan?”
