The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the results of the local government chairman and municipal council elections in the state.
Anambra PDP Chairman Chigozie Igwe has accused the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) of rigging last Saturday’s elections in favor of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidates.
In an interview with the press on Monday, Igwe, who made the accusation, claimed that the election materials were distributed in an unfair manner.
Naija News reports that the ANSIEC chairperson, Mrs. Genevieve Osakwe, has declared the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) chairperson and municipal council candidates elected in 21 local government councils and 326 wards. .
Mr. Igwe explained that contrary to Mr. Osakewu’s claims of free and fair elections, the election was a sham.
He said the process leading up to and including the election was not fair.
“They gave us a month to prepare for the election, and within that time we sold papers, screened candidates, conducted primaries and campaigns, and met all the conditions. I filled it.
“However, on the day of the election, ANSIEC sent materials and staff to desired locations, but the results were not released anywhere, including to Zikton Primary School in Nza Ozubulu, where I voted.
“They staged a farce in the name of elections. Therefore, we reject whatever results they announced,” Igwe asserted.
