The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has responded to recent allegations by the Northern Youth Movement (NYM) targeting former Jigawa State Governor and PDP founding member, Sule Lamido.
The charges reportedly relate to an article titled “You were part of the 2014 rebellion against the PDP” which was allegedly endorsed by the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike. There is.
This claim has caused frustration among PDP supporters in Jigawa and across Nigeria, and has provoked a fierce rebuttal from the party leadership.
In a statement, Jigawa PDP leader Muhammad Mago condemned the article, calling it a false report aimed at damaging Dr Lamido’s reputation.
Mr Mago claimed that the smear campaign was orchestrated by Wike to create division within the PDP.
Mr Mago said NYM’s statement was a “malicious attempt to tarnish Mr Lamido’s image” and that Mr Wike’s alleged actions were a sign of “hard politics” and betrayal to the PDP. he added.
He maintained that Wike’s assumption of a ministerial role under the APC was a clear departure from his loyalty to the PDP.
Mago is an avid party supporter and Lamido, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Olusegun Obasanjo, served as Jigawa State Governor from 2007 to 2015 and is known for his dedication to the PDP. He emphasized that he is widely respected.
He added that Mr. Lamido will continue to focus on the national interest and will not engage in provocations by Mr. Wike.
The PDP leader also refuted NYM’s claims that Mr. Lamido pushed his son Mustapha as the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the last election, insisting that Mr. Mustapha won the nomination on the basis of merit and rigorous campaigning.
Mr. Mago called on the public to ignore the “malicious” article and praised Mr. Lamido’s long-standing contribution to the PDP and the leadership of President Obasanjo and the stabilization of Nigeria after President Umaru Musa Yar. They called for recognition of their influential role in resolving national crises, including their contributions to the “Adua has passed away.
