The Peoples Democratic Party in Bauchi State has suspended Habib Umar, a member of the state House of Representatives representing Kirfi Local Government, over his relationship with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.
Naija News reported that sources who spoke to Mr. Punch about the development said that Mr. Umar was suspended due to his alleged partnership with Mr. Wike.
However, a letter addressed to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman, revealed that Umar was suspended for alleged insubordination.
The letter, signed by the party’s state chairman Samaira Bulga, said Umar was found guilty after an investigation and evaluation by a disciplinary committee.
He added that from November 25, 2024, the lawmaker will be prohibited from participating in any party activities, pending further developments from the party.
The letter said: “Mr. Habib Umar has been issued a letter of inquiry by the party dated 5 November 2024 regarding the reported act of insubordination in violation of article 58(9)(1) and (f) of the party constitution. ” 2017 (with amendments).
“The said report was submitted to the party by Beni Ward and duly signed by the entire Exco.
“Subsequent to the above, a Disciplinary Committee was established by the Party with effect from November 11, 2024 pursuant to Section 10 (59) (1) of the 2017 Constitution (as amended).
“After a critical investigation and prior assessment of the facts, the Committee finds that the Honorable Member is guilty of the crime in question and is therefore subject to an indefinite suspension pursuant to Article 59(4) and (5) of the Party Constitution. We have made an immediate recommendation.”
