2023 Labor Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi has appealed for calm following the latest court ruling regarding the party leadership.
In a personally signed statement on Wednesday, Mr. Obi said he met on Tuesday with Governor Alex Otti, interim chairman and Labor Party secretary to discuss and consider the court’s ruling.
Naija News reports that the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, on Tuesday ruled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must formally recognize Julius Habre as the rightful chairman of the Labor Party. I remember that the court had ruled against it.
Reacting to the development, Mr. Obi said he and his allies would continue discussions and consultations without being distracted from the issues affecting the people.
The former Anambra State governor added that he always knew that the task of creating a new Nigeria would be fraught with challenges.
He writes: “Yesterday, Governor Alex Otti and I met with the Interim Chairman and Secretary of the Labor Party to discuss and review recent developments, including the judgment handed down by the Abuja High Court on the same day.
“I urge all members of the Labor Party to remain calm and patient as discussions and consultations continue.
“Our goal is to come together stronger and more united as one united front.
“We must not allow this to distract us from addressing the pressing issues affecting our people today.
“We have always known that the task of delivering a new Nigeria would not be achieved without difficulties. -PO”
