Valentine Ojigbo, a politician from Anambra state, has announced his immediate resignation from the Labour Party (LP).
Ozigbo announced the decision via his account on Wednesday, saying it officially notified 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi and the national chairman of his decision.
He repeated his deep respect for Obi as a leader.
Explaining the reason for dumping the Labour Party, Ozigbo said that recent events have made it clear that it has come to build something different for the people of Anambra state.
He added that his decision was about people, not party boundaries.
Naija News reports that Ojigbo in a personally signed statement entitled “New Chapter: Bold Steps in the Future of Anambra.”

“Some time ago, at the Labour Party's state executive committee meeting in Auca, Anambra state, I formally submitted my resignation letter to the chair of the ward.
“My unwavering commitment to the greater vision of our state leads this decision. Before this, His Excellency Peter Obie said that I was in the interest of his leadership and the principles we shared on this journey. My decision was formally informed as a sign of deep respect for me. I have also notified the national president.
“In every critical moment in history, our choices shape the future we dream of. Today, as I take a new step into my journey of service, I have an unwavering resolve, a clear vision, And we do so with the unshakable belief that the best day of Anambra is beyond us.
“I believe in not in my personal ambitions, but in the infinite possibilities of our people. I believe in leadership that is considerate, inspirational and truly useful to people. That mission. hasn’t changed. It’s just getting stronger.
“Recent events have revealed one thing. It’s time for us to build something new, something bold, something that speaks to the hopes and aspirations of all Anambra sons and daughters.
