Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to give up hopes of winning the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 elections.
Wike stressed that the party’s ticket would not be “wasted” on those he described as “serial traitors” who are facing the fallout of their past actions within the PDP.
Speaking at a live media briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Wike asserted that Atiku, the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, will not be given a further chance in 2027.
Recall that Mr. Atiku gave an interview to Mr. Wike in which he ridiculed the minister for failing to defeat him in the 2022 PDP primaries.
Mr. Atiku responded through his media aide, Plank Shaibu, pointing to his previous success against Mr. Wike in securing the PDP presidential candidate in 2023 and his defeat of former Governor Aminu Tambuwal in 2019.
Reacting, the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and New Media, Lele Olinka, reinforced Mr Wike’s position.
“His Excellency Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and those who encourage him for personal gain should give the PDP a break,” Mr. Olayinka said in a statement issued on Thursday, calling on Mr. Atiku and his supporters to He urged him to refrain from running for office in 2027.
He said, “The fact that Mr. Atiku is praising himself for competing with Mr. Wike and Mr. Tambuwal for the PDP ticket means that he ran for the presidential primary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and came third. “The bigger reason is that they were a little over 25 years old in 1993.” He needs to go home and rest and stop acting like the proverbial rooster who didn’t realize he was an elderly man.
“It is clear that he (Atiku) is paying the price for betraying the PDP in 2003, 2007 and 2014. If he had not, if he had avoided making too many statements, he would have fought twice. He could have chosen the same presidency that he lost.” He has been ambitious since his time as vice president.
“It was this sense of hopelessness that led him to contest the presidential election in 2007, while serving as vice president, as a candidate of the Action Congress, which was elected on the platform of the PDP. Join with other parties to form another party and contest with your own party as the new party candidate. That is Alhaji Atiku Abubakar!
“Most importantly, Mr. Atiku’s conscience will continue to condemn him for his role in Lagos in 2023, and even if he apologized to PDP members in 2018, he will continue to wear the garment of betrayal on his body. I’m sure it can never be removed.”
“So it is once again being heard in his ears, and in the ears of the people who lied to him, that he is the only one who can win the Democratic presidential nomination. It doesn’t belong to someone like him.” He goes to the polls and runs in Dubai, but returns to the polls two years later. ”
