The Abia State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party has called on Governor Alex Otti to provide evidence of the expenditure of N90 billion to settle contract debts in the state.
The party claimed it had no knowledge that such debt existed.
They argued that Otti’s claims lacked verifiable documentation and due process.
The PDP then called on the governor to reveal the names of individuals and companies who profited from the Rs90 billion transaction.
Through a letter titled “Open Letter to Governor Alex Otti” by the new state party chairman, Elder Abraham Ama, dated November 8, 2024, the PDP stated: You are in relation to the payment of N90 billion to contractors in the state, which you claim is a debt incurred by the previous PDP-led administration in the state.
“Let me be clear: Abia PDP is not aware of the existence of any such debt incurred by the immediate past PDP administration. It is in the interest of Asians if you release the records as proof of your claim. Probably.
“In response to your contention that such large sums of money could be paid to settle debts that, as we understand, lack verifiable documentation and due process, I We must express our deep concern.
“This staggering amount requires immediate scrutiny and we urge you to clarify how this figure was determined and the basis for these payments.
“In the spirit of transparency and accountability, it is vital that we disclose the names of individuals and companies that benefited from these financial transactions. The people of Abia State have the right to know who received these payments. Because it helps promote public confidence in the government and its financial dealings.
“Furthermore, the speculation surrounding these payments is raising alarm among our constituents. You are making these payments while your administration is allegedly enriching Signature Bank with another N90 billion. We must assure the public of the integrity and legitimacy of our transactions. Our citizens deserve trust in their leaders, and without clear communication, that trust is undermined. .
“We are also disappointed that, despite previous assurances regarding spending and project funding, the current situation appears to be contradictory. We are taking immediate action to clarify these issues. We urge you to do so and strengthen your commitment to transparency, which is essential to effective governance.”
