The office of the Edo State Deputy Governor on Osadebe Street in Benin has been cordoned off by heavy police presence, raising eyebrows amid continued political tension in the state.
On Sunday, stern-looking police were seen at the scene, with a police truck carrying a machine gun and three officers stationed at the entrance.
The office was previously relocated from the Government House during a prominent conflict between Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki.
As of Sunday, the entrance gate to the office remained closed and access appears to be completely restricted.
According to reports, staff from the deputy governor’s office were directed to report to the John Odigie Oyegun Civil Service Office on Friday instead.
Additionally, the official vehicles of the Lieutenant Governor’s Office, including the press corps bus, were moved to the Office of the Director of Services in the Governor’s Office.
An official from the lieutenant governor’s office told Punch on Sunday. We were told to resume at JOOPSA on Thursday, resumed there on Friday, and were scheduled to resume tomorrow (Monday). ”
