The lawmaker representing Gumi/Bukuyum Federal Constituency in Zamfara State, Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives.
Naija News reports that Gumi has sacked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the APC with immediate effect.
The departure from the party was announced during Wednesday’s plenary session by House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who read out a letter from his fellow MPs.
Mr Gumi said in the letter that his departure from the party was the result of a protracted and unresolved internal crisis within the PDP.
“It is worth noting here that there are two PDP chairmen in my constituency, Gumi/Bukuyum Federal Constituency. One was unconstitutionally removed and the other “As a result of the withdrawal, my constituency lacks party structure, which makes it difficult for me to provide adequate representation and quickly deliver the dividends of democracy to my constituents.” is written.
After reading the letter, Chairman Abbas asked Gumi to stand to welcome the APC.
However, an order was immediately raised by House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, who said the Speaker should announce the vacancy of the Hon. Sulaiman Abubakar Mahmud Gumi’s seat is due to defection from APC to PDP, especially as there is no ongoing conflict within the PDP.
However, this claim by the minority leader was considered an anomaly.
