Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kiev forces maintain a stronghold in Russia’s Kursk border region.
Ukrainian forces have controlled parts of the region since the invasion in early August.
“Regarding the Kursk operation, we are holding the line, despite some attempts by Russia to push back on our positions,” President Zelenskiy said in a nightly video address.

He also described the situation of the Ukrainian military in the eastern Donetsk region and the southern Zaporizhzhya region as “very difficult.”
President Zelenskiy also said that he wants to significantly expand domestic arms production with the help of Western investments.
“Our industrial capacity allows us to produce much more drones, artillery shells and military equipment than our financial capacity,” Zelenskiy said.
He expressed his gratitude to all partners who have already invested in Ukraine’s defense industry. “Thanks to these investments, the production of drones in particular has increased significantly,” the President of Ukraine said.
Earlier this week, Russia announced that it had recaptured two villages in the Kursk region.
Ukraine has said it aims to create a buffer zone in Kursk to prevent Russian shelling of Ukrainian border areas. President Zelensky also said that Kiev aims to draw Russian forces away from Ukraine’s eastern Donbas front.
