South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada on Thursday defeated Bangladesh for 307 with figures of 6-46 on the fourth day of the first Test in Mirpur.
The tourists need 106 runs to win after Bangladesh conceded just 24 runs within 30 minutes for the last three wickets of the innings.
Mehdi Hasan Miraz was the host team’s top scorer with 97 points.
Resuming at 283-7, overnighter Naeem Hasan hit a rampaging Rabada LBW with the third ball of the day.
The inswinger stayed low and hit Naeem’s pads, but sent him back without adding to his overnight total of 16.
Wyan Mulder took the wicket of Taijul Islam for 7 in four overs. Taijul tried to push to cover but could only manage a thick edge to third slip.
All-rounder Mehidi hit Rabada straight to Mulder at slip in the next over, leaving him three runs shy of his second Test century.
South Africa countered Bangladesh’s 106 all out on the opening day and scored 308 runs in the first innings, helped by Kyle Bellin's second Test century.
Bangladesh has never won a Test against South Africa.
The second and final match of the series will begin on October 29 in Chattogram.
