The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dared former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, to walk freely on the streets of the state.
Prince Kassim Afegbua, party leader and member of the Edo National Asset Verification Commission, has promised Mr Obaseki a £50 million reward if he can walk the streets of Benin and receive an enthusiastic welcome from the people. did.
Mr. Afegbua posed the challenge at a press conference shortly after Governor Okpeboro on Monday inaugurated the committee at the Government House in Benin City.
He was responding to criticism of Governor Okpeboro’s administration by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday.
According to him, “The reason for holding the press conference is, as the chairman said, to respond to public insinuations.
“First of all, they said that the APC government, which is only 14 days old, has shut down the e-government platform. That is so laughable and so wrong. What they called e-government is actually is electronic corruption.
“This is the basic truth, because we tried to access as much as possible some of the information that was disseminated before this new administration, and we couldn’t even access them.”
“Secondly, the opposition says our thugs broke into their secretariat. I think they are just trying to give the dog a bad name in order to hang him. They are too preoccupied, too serious, and too busy with restoring the Edo state from the ruins of underdevelopment that the regime has thrust into it.
“What is it like to see the secretariat of the opposition party depressed after suffering a crushing defeat in the territory despite the big victory of the Edokko people in the last election?
“The focus of the current government’s decisions and policies is such that we do not get bogged down in (those) claims that are trying to attack us just to distract us.
“Finally today they released a new statement complaining about the fact that we are conducting asset identification exercises because we have nothing better to do.
“All over the world, we all know that it is good to get a government status report when you leave. This practice is not just limited to Edo State or Nigeria. It is everywhere.
“And since the previous administration fell short in terms of facts and figures governing its own governance process, we, as the APC, in line with the Federal Government’s New Hope Agenda, have addressed certain gaps as has already been done. It is our duty to start pursuing this,” was captured by the Chairman of the Asset Verification Committee.
“Therefore, several days have passed since the inauguration of the new government, and we would like to remind you that the work we have undertaken as a government and party, and the progress we have made so far, is deeply loved in the hearts of the people of Edo. , I want to tell the people of Edo.
“If you are really serious about your opposition, please invite former Governor Godwin Obaseki to come to Edo for a street tour. Let’s see if you accept it.”
Mr. Afegbua alleged that the immediate past governor had hired some persons across the state to attack and abuse the APC and its state government.
