The Enugu State Police Command on Saturday released the photograph of the police officer who allegedly killed Okezie Chikezie Mba, a popular Ogeen traditional musician known as Igbo Jaa.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) earlier reported that the musician was killed at the tactical squad headquarters on October 25 at around 8:10 p.m.
Police spokesperson DSP Daniel Ndukwe said in a release: “The musician was reportedly leaving the squad headquarters after a friendly visit when, for reasons yet to be ascertained, he was arrested. The officer fired his rifle, striking the victim.”
“He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending physician. His body has been placed in the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.”
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, along with other senior officials of the state government, visited the family of the late singer.
He reassured the late singer’s family that a full-scale investigation is currently underway to facilitate prompt and appropriate disciplinary action against the police officer.
The CP stressed that the Nigeria Police Force remains a disciplined institution and erring officers will face the consequences of their actions as a deterrent to others. He reiterated his sympathy and sympathy to all those affected by the unfortunate and callous murder of the musician and appealed to everyone to maintain faith in the police until justice is served in this case.
