Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South, has slammed those criticizing his stand on President Bola Tinubu’s tax reform bill.
He was furious with those who accused him of ignorance in introducing the bill.
Mr Ndume claimed that he taught at a polytechnic for 20 years before entering politics.
He made this revelation during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today.
Ndume said people see him as ignorant because he is from Borno State and wears an agbada.
The congressman said that despite his schooling in Nigeria and the United States, some people still consider him ignorant.
he said: “I am 65 years old. I was schooled in Nigeria and America. Some people call me ignorant because I wear an agbada and because I am from Borno State. Before I entered politics, I taught at a polytechnic for 20 years. I married two of my daughters to Yoruba men.”
There was a lot of commotion and shouting on the Senate floor Thursday over the tax reform bill.
Mr Ndume opposed the bill, citing timing as one of the factors contributing to the backlash to the proposed bill.
He pointed to the public’s perception of the current government and said it is bad timing to introduce such a bill at this time.
