South African legal experts have submitted further evidence to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in support of the country’s genocide case against Israel, Al Jazeera reports.
Hundreds of documents further proving Israel's complicity in the genocide in Gaza were submitted on Monday, the deadline given by the ICJ to continue the case.
Part of this evidence includes statements made by extremist Israeli settlers and politicians who spoke at demonstrations near the Gaza border about their intention to expel Palestinians to other Arab countries and settle them in enclaves. Ta.
The event titled “Preparing to Settle in Gaza” was hosted last week by the extremist Nachalla Settlement Movement, led by Daniela Weiss, who is considered the godmother of the Israeli settler movement.
South African diplomats said the statements provided “undeniable evidence” of Israel’s genocidal intentions.
A team of lawyers and diplomats working on the case told Al Jazeera they were “confident” that the hundreds of pieces of evidence they had collected were sufficient to support the case.
In late December, South Africa filed a complaint with the ICJ accusing Israel of committing genocide in the brutal Gaza war that lasted more than a year. In January, the court ordered Israel to refrain from acts that could fall under the 1948 Genocide Convention and to ensure that its military does not commit genocide against Palestinians.
Israel ignores these orders and has killed more than 43,000 people since October 7, 2023, most of them civilians. The war displaced almost all of Gaza’s 2.3 million people and left the territory completely devastated.
At least 13 countries are joining South Africa’s case at the ICJ.
