At the height of her popularity in November 1994, Whitney Houston held three concerts in South Africa to honor Nelson Mandela, who had been elected president of the country earlier that year. The second show in Johannesburg aired on HBO at the time and was released on VHS. But the first show, to be held at King’s Park Stadium in Durban, will be released on CD and vinyl for the first time on November 8, and will be available digitally.
The title of the album is “The Concert for a New South Africa (Durban)”. The film version (see trailer below) will be shown in theaters in cities around the world, including parts of New Jersey, on October 23rd and 27th.
Visit Whitneysouthafrica.com for a list of theaters showing this film.
This CD features both the concert and studio versions of “Love Is,” a song written by Carvin Winans of the gospel quartet The Winans and never previously included on any Houston album. I’m planning on doing it.
The CD track list is as follows:
“I need love today too.”
“It’s very emotional.”
“Love saves the day”
“I give you all my love”
“I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)”
“How do I know?”
Love Medley: “I Love You”/”All at Once”/”Where You Are”/”Lover for Life”
“Queen of the Night”
“i have nothing”
“love is”
“i will always love you”
“I’m every woman”
“The greatest love of all”
“Love Is” (studio version)
And here is the trailer for the movie.
