The South East chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally written to President Bola Tinubu seeking a review of recent appointments to the South East Development Commission (SEDC).
In a letter signed by the South-East National Vice-Chairman of the APC, Dr. Ijeoma Alodiogbu, the party expressed appreciation for the President’s focus on regional development, including the establishment of the SEDC.
However, concerns have been raised about the composition of the commission’s board and management, which APC claims does not comply with the SEDC Establishment Act.
The party specifically singled out House Deputy Speaker Benjamin Cull, alleging that he influenced personnel decisions to favor his own staff.
Five people were appointed from Kalu’s team, but key states such as Imo and Ebonyi states were reportedly excluded from the selection process.
Other members of the House of Representatives have also argued that Mr Carew’s actions are self-serving and go against his party's desire for a fair distribution of positions across all states in the southeast.
These members expressed disappointment at Mr Cull’s disregard for collective advice aimed at fair representation.
Additionally, the South East APC criticized the inclusion of opposition individuals on the committee despite the presence of many qualified technocrats within the APC.
The letter concludes by appealing to the President to reconsider the appointment and ensure compliance with the commission’s legal framework, warning that failure to do so could undermine support among APC supporters in the South-East. There is.
