Controversial Nigerian singer Darlington Atyakpo, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has apologized to his colleague Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, following the incident that led to his recent detention.
Speed Darlington’s attorney, Stan Arike, released an official statement on the status of the case via Instagram.
Recall, Darlington helped Burna Boy connect the A-list artist with embattled music mogul Sean Combs, better known as P. Diddy or Puff Daddy, and Burna Boy’s Grammy-winning credentials. He was detained after filing a petition against Darlington for questioning his sexuality.
In a statement, Arieke explained that the controversial video was not intended to be defamatory, but was purely for entertainment purposes.
He also said Darlington’s comments were misunderstood because he is known for bringing joy to his audience.
The lawyer also clarified that he never meant to insult Burna Boy’s mother, who is fondly called Akpi, and said the statement was just a “gaffe” taken out of context.
He further emphasized that in order to resolve any lingering tensions, Speed Darlington has informally reached out to Burna Boy and his team to seek further clarification on the matter.
“In the spirit of brotherhood and the extension of an olive branch, our client has informally reached out to his colleague and his team to request that they provide further clarification directly to the individual,” the statement concluded.
